Your Journey to Healing Transformation

We forge on our journey with humor, compassion, curiosity, and empathy.

About Me

Jennifer Sabbah, LCSW, SEP, EMDR

For 30 years, I have had the opportunity and privilege of accompanying individuals as they embark on their therapeutic journey. Throughout these years, I have embraced the belief that the therapeutic relationship is the single most important aspect in determining a successful outcome. It is with my commitment to the relationship that I bring a sense of curiosity, acceptance, compassion, humor, and empathy, not just to the words being said, but to the whole person. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor and, as such, pay careful attention to your pace and experience of the process.

After the connection has been established, you and I collaboratively decide on the treatment approach. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I am also trained in body and sensation-based tools such as Somatic Experiencing (SE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as Sand Tray Therapy and Play Therapy. A critical part of this work involves establishing treatment goals with you, which most often includes unpacking and reprocessing impactful past events, helping you handle life’s inevitable adversities, and assisting with life transitions, stressors, and relationship issues. The awareness, insights, space, and objectivity gained in the therapeutic process allows you to approach life events and your choices in a more responsive and less reactive manner.

It is this commitment to the building of a solid and meaningful relationship, combined with my expertise in a variety of different modalities, that has enabled me to facilitate deep healing and a capacity to access one’s authentic self.

Specialties

Treating individuals (ages 4-94), I have been fortunate to work with clients throughout their life span. Bringing my knowledge of developmental milestones and using it as a backdrop, I am able to understand an array of challenges that may present themselves at various stages in the life cycle. I am aware of the often competing parts that emerge during a new developmental phase. Each new stage can present with a mixed bag of excitement and wonderment and can also carry with it new and difficult encounters. These touchpoints give you the opportunity to address deeper conflicts. As you become more cognizant, acquainted, and compassionate with those parts of yourself that have emerged, you become more self-aware of your inner landscape and thereby gain a better understanding of yourself.

SERVICES

In Person and Virtual Sessions Available

We all have had various negative experiences in our lifetime that have remained unprocessed and continue to contribute to our current day struggles. Through bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps you digest these difficult past incidents, memories, sensations, or feelings so they no longer have the same distressing impact on your current functioning. Once the experience has been digested, you are able to obtain more freedom and flexibility in choosing your responses to present day situations.

This body-oriented therapeutic modality treats past traumas by expanding the lens from  just thoughts and emotions to incorporate the entire body. Somatic Experiencing (SE) includes the body’s completion of thwarted fight/flight responses, helps with tracking and understanding your body’s communication, and provides an opportunity to learn how to remain emotionally and physically regulated during triggering situations.

Sand Tray Therapy is a research-based form of therapy that can be used with individuals of all ages. This approach allows you an opportunity to express yourself through the use of miniature figurines in an enclosed sandbox. The psychological distance gained through the symbolic play in the sandbox helps some individuals work through emotionally charged material that they otherwise would not be able to access through more traditional therapies.

Play is the natural language through which children express, communicate, and learn about themselves and their world. Play therapy uses the child’s organic form of expression coupled with a safe psychological distance to allow them to share their struggles and conflicts, work through difficult or traumatic life events, and develop coping strategies to handle inevitable adversities.

A more traditional form of therapy, talk therapy or psychotherapy, uses words to help you understand your inner landscape, including thoughts, feelings, negative beliefs, cognitions, and emotions. Through this understanding, you can become more sophisticated in your ability to remain regulated and clear-minded during difficult and triggering moments.
